當外國人跟你說「86」的時候，
你會想到什麼？
數字86？中國的國際區號（+86）？

01.絕對意想不到的「86」
在英語詞典中eighty-six有一個特別的意思，是「取消」或「拒絕向某人提供服務」。
我們來看看英語詞典的解析：
再對eighty-six拓展一下，有一種說法是，「86」誕生于上世紀二三十年代的餐飲服務業。
如果某食物賣完了或不再供應了(No longer available)，廚師會用「86」來表示None，即「沒有了」。
然后美國人覺得它和「nix」是同韻俚語。然而nix就是美式俚語，且相同含義都表示「saying ‘no’ to」（阻止；拒絕）
例句 ●
The bar's policy is that bartenders have the authority and responsibility to 86 customers who disrupt other patrons.
這個酒吧的政策是調酒師有權力和責任拒絕服務打擾其他顧客的客人。
再後來，86逐漸進入大眾語言中，而不僅限于餐廳和酒吧，衍生出了「驅趕/discard」甚至是「丟棄、扔掉-get rid of」，以及「殺死」的意思。
比如《行尸走肉》一集中，就用到了86作為「殺死」的含義。
總結來說，如果你在餐飲業工作，那麼在表達某樣菜品沒有了你可以直接說「86 something-某菜沒有了，不要接單了」，或者有人搗亂，你可以
「86 someone-趕走某人」。
02.英語中超有意思的「諧音梗」
英語中也有「諧音梗」，例如：
1、「Dog and Bone」代替 "phone"（電話）
I'll give you a bell on the dog and bone.
我會給你打電話。
2、「Ruby Murray 」代替 "curry"（咖喱），
Fancy a Ruby Murray tonight?
今晚想吃咖喱嗎？
3、「Barnet Fair」代替 "hair"（頭髮）
I'm getting my Barnet Fair done tomorrow.
我明天要去做頭髮。
4、「Apples and pears」代替「Stairs」（樓梯）
He hasn't made it up those apples and pears in ten years.
他已經十年沒爬上樓梯了。
5、「Adam and Eve」代替「Believe」（相信）

03.six and two threes
再跟大家拓展一些有趣數字的俚語，six and two threes=半斤八兩，不相上下
在國外牛津詞典的中英雙譯是這樣的：
a situation in which the alternatives are considered equivalent.
被認為是對等的一種情況。
換成我們中文的話就會有半斤八兩的含義，同樣在英語語法中還有一句相類似的英語短語，不過表達稍微會長一丟丟。但是它們的意思是一樣的：
six of one and half a dozen of the other
這句短語直接翻譯就是：一個人是六個和另外一個是半打（在外國的計量單位六個等于半打）。
兩個是完全相同的，只不過說法用詞有所差別。
04.eleventh hour
eleventh hour=千鈞一發
在外國中eleventh hour也不是那麼簡單的喲，正常情況下它的確表達的是11點。但是它背后還存在一個意思。
因為11點距離12點只有一小時，如果有些事情著急要12點完成是不是就相當的不夠時間呢？
于是後來老外就把eleventh hour引申為「千金一發、危難緊急之時」。
He postponed his trip at the eleventh hour.
他在最后一刻推遲了旅行。
05.watch your six
watch your six=正后方
美劇中會聽到老外說「watch your six」，可千萬別小瞧了它的意思，這里的six不是代表著數字6哦。
現在學姐跟小伙伴們科普一下，一開始watch your six是使用在戰場的。
空軍的飛行員在交戰的時候會有一個盲點，它就是自己的正后方。可是交戰的時候敵人最先攻擊的地方就是后背。
因為時鐘的6點鐘方向，是正后方。所以老外的空軍就使用watch your six來提醒戰友小心自己的正后方或者后背。
漸漸的老外們還延伸表達讓別人要「做事小心」！
You must watch your six so as not to fall down.你要小心，以免摔倒。
